Jim Cuda is originally from Odessa, Missouri, and is the owner of Hybrid Mania Guide Service on Truman Lake. He has been fishing Truman since the mid-1980s and brings a long history of local experience to every guide trip. Jim’s specialty is hybrid striped bass, often called wipers. While Truman Lake offers several ways to target hybrids, Jim focuses heavily on live bait, including shad and bluegill, to put clients around some of the hardest-fighting fish in the lake. In addition to hybrid trips, Jim also offers some crappie trips throughout the year, but hybrids remain his main focus. As Jim puts it, “You just can’t beat the fight that a big wiper puts up.” Jim is also prepared to adjust when the fish show themselves on top. He keeps topwater tackle ready in case hybrids start schooling or feeding on the surface, giving clients a chance at one of the most exciting bites Truman Lake has to offer. Most of Jim’s trips meet at Truman State Park Marina, and the prime hybrid season generally runs from early March through early November. As a Truman Lake Fishing Intel contributor, Jim brings dependable hybrid knowledge, years of lake experience, and practical reports that help members better understand how these fish move, feed, and set up throughout the season.
