David McCormick’s passion for fishing started when he was a young boy riding his bike to local ponds. During his teens and twenties, fishing took a back seat to hunting, but that changed in 1993 when he joined a bass club and began taking tournament fishing seriously.
From there, David’s fishing journey grew through several bass clubs and tournament trails, including Red Man, Heartland ProAM, Everstart/Stren Series, FLW Series, Walmart BFL events, and Bassmaster Open competition. His first major win came in December 2000 at the inaugural Super Bass ProAM — a win that helped pay for his wife’s engagement ring.
David has stayed active in the tournament scene over the years and continues to compete in regional and local bass trails, including Joe Bass, USA Bassin, Solo Pro, Average Joe’s, and other competitive events. That mix of experience gives him a practical tournament angler’s perspective on changing conditions, pressure, seasonal movements, and how to make decisions on the water when every bite matters.
Truman Lake has become one of David’s favorite fisheries. Winning the Walmart BFL Championship on Truman made the lake even more meaningful and gave him a strong connection to the local tournament scene.
David’s passion for fishing also led him to share what he has learned with other anglers. In 2018, he launched his Fish30 YouTube channel, where he brings viewers along during his tournament journey and gives anglers a look at what tournament fishing is really like.
As a contributor to Truman Lake Fishing Intel, David brings a tournament angler’s perspective, years of bass fishing experience, and a practical understanding of how Truman Lake sets up under changing conditions. He is excited to be part of the TLFI team and looks forward to seeing members on the water.
David is also the owner of Dave’s Dent Magic, Inc. in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.
